Radio Statement Of Intent: Year 13

 Radio and Online- Brief 2

Statement Of Intent

When I was given the two options of either producing a music video or trying something different like a radio programme, I wanted to expand my knowledge on something I'd never done before. Therefore, I decided to do a Radio Channel production. I knew whatever topic I selected to talk about on my radio, I'd have to research about it and be able to state facts and figure. As well as this, I want to be able to relate to the topic so I can almost feel like I'm having a one on one conversation with the audience. I think thus is really important in a Radio Production due to it keeping the audience interested and almost feel like they're involved. As well as this, I wanted the topic to be something the target audience could relate to due to it being aimed at 16-25 year olds. I want two public speakers in my radio, both of different ages. I want one to be an older speaker and one to be a much younger speaker. This is because the view points will be very different on the topic from one having had the life experience as the other speaker won't have. Personally, I think having the topic 'Knowledge' makes the audience engaged because the target audience will be experiencing different life experiences.

When I was selecting a topic I wanted it to stand out and intrigue me so hopefully it would have the same effect on the audience. I browsed the internet looking for different ideas and came across 'Knowledge'. This topic can be seen as a very broad idea however I can make it into what I want. Having direct points to what I want to explore and expand on. As well as this, by having a topic which could lead onto many different ideas also helps on the idea that the radio is a weekly appearing radio channel and not just a one off show. The idea I wanted to develop on is: We're affected by what we know or what we don't know. I picked this because when I am having the one on one 'me too' moments with A Speaker and the audience I can have open questions with them and not closed and direct ones. Therefore, my listeners can relate to my radio and not be uninterested and bored.

To start of my radio show I want a jingle which has a loud, catchy song introduction which follows through to introduce my radio channel. I want the introduction to stand out and become memorable to the audience so they know its my show just by the start of jingle song. I don't want any words in my introduction song until towards the end of the song due to in my opinion it comes across more effective that way. I think jingles are important because it helps set the mood and create an atmosphere.

In my channel one of the main things which are important is the Conversational Tones. The reasoning for this is because as a producer on a radio show, you don't want to come across as you are talking down to the target audience. From the audience being 16-25 year olds, if the radio doesn't come across that the producer is having a back and forth conversation they may get the wrong impression and feel belittled.

When I am setting the plot of my radio show, I want to explore attitudes, experiences and opinions. To do this, the speakers in my show who I will be having discussions with, I will ask similar questions based around one topic and have an open interview on what they think about it. As well as this, to make the show continued I will have a different theme each week based on the focus topic 'Knowledge'.

This week's theme is 'Social Media is...' the website will advertise the follow on episode 'Education is...'. With having the topic being based on social media, everyone, different ages and genders, all have several opinions on the topic. Also, with stating what the next theme what will be talked about and explored keep the audience wanting to know more and whether or not it will interest them to want to listen.

In my radio channel I am going to be playing the role as the producer and director. I think with being the producer I have to be able to carry the show and keep the audience entertained. At the beginning of the radio when I being to speak I will introduce myself, state the time and date, and then set the scene of what my show is about. I think this is one of the most important sections of the show because this is either the make or break of whether people will want to listen or not. Getting straight to the point of what the radio channel is about so people don't lose interest. 'Before we get started, here is what's coming up'. Saying this makes the audience understand what is going to be spoken about on the show.
