Production Practice Year 13
Adding a blog to the 1min music video- June/July 21st
Before picking a music video I wanted to re create, I picked the actors that was going to be in the production. The reason for this was because I would work around them with their abilities and pick something that I knew they would succeed in best. Therefore, I would know their limits and know how advanced to go. I think this is important because you then always know you will be able to create something with texture and also impressive.
The music video I picked in the end was 'Hideaway' by Kiesza. In the official video it was filmed entirely on one street in Brooklyn, New York. I thought this idea with only having one location worked really well because of how clean it made the video. It was simple but looked really effective. Personally, I thought this worked well and wanted to include this in my music video.
Due to the official music video being 4mins 35secs long, I needed to pick a section of the song which only lasted 1min long. I thought the part of the song which had the most tension and tones what also draws you in the most was the first minute of the song just before the chorus starts. It has lots of different layers which creates emotion and also a setting for the video. You can hear strong beats of the song which makes the dance performed more powerful and dramatic. Personally, when a dance is choreographed to a song it works so much better than putting two and two together separate, this is because finer detail i.e. the beats which aren't so bold and obvious have their own rhythm which strengthens the song as a whole.
When I was filming the video I decided that I wanted the whole clip to be in one shot. The reason for this is because I think with music videos it works better if the camera is just transitioned through moving around. Therefore, different angles and shots can be created without having a broken up effect due to the cuts of the video. In the clip I moved around to capture different effects. Due to this I could also zoom in and out of the actors bodies creating more intense scenes. I think it also worked well because it enhanced their features when the shot needed to see their emotions. I think this is important because the emotions in a music video need to be show to give the audience a better understanding of what the actors or artist are feeling.
